Sullivan County Cooling Centers

Posted on June 29, 2026June 29, 2026 by Tim Bruno

MONTICELLO, N.Y. — Sullivan County has identified a network of cooling centers across the county where residents can find relief from dangerous summer temperatures.

The county is encouraging anyone without access to air conditioning — particularly older adults, young children and people with chronic medical conditions — to take advantage of air-conditioned public buildings during periods of extreme heat.

State health officials also recommend checking on neighbors and relatives who may be vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Most of the designated cooling locations are public libraries, along with the Sullivan County Government Center, the Sullivan County Community College library and the Walmart store in Monticello.

Cooling centers include:

  • Mamakating Library, 128 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro
  • Sunshine Hall Free Library, 14 Proctor Road, Eldred
  • Jeffersonville Library, 19 Center St., Jeffersonville
  • Callicoon Library, 45 Lower Main St., Callicoon
  • Tusten-Cochecton Branch Library, 198 Bridge St., Narrowsburg
  • Livingston Manor Free Library, 92 Main St., Livingston Manor
  • South Fallsburg Public Library, 8454 Route 42N, South Fallsburg
  • Woodridge Village Clerk’s Office, 2 Dairyland Road, Woodridge
  • Liberty Public Library, 189 North Main St., Liberty
  • Monticello Library, 393 Broadway, Monticello
  • Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North St., Monticello
  • SUNY Sullivan Library, 112 College Road, Loch Sheldrake
  • Walmart, 41 Anawana Lake Road, Monticello

Hours vary by location, and residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm availability before traveling.

Health officials advise drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, wearing lightweight clothing and never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should seek medical attention immediately.
