MONTICELLO, N.Y. — Sullivan County has identified a network of cooling centers across the county where residents can find relief from dangerous summer temperatures.
The county is encouraging anyone without access to air conditioning — particularly older adults, young children and people with chronic medical conditions — to take advantage of air-conditioned public buildings during periods of extreme heat.
State health officials also recommend checking on neighbors and relatives who may be vulnerable to heat-related illness.
Most of the designated cooling locations are public libraries, along with the Sullivan County Government Center, the Sullivan County Community College library and the Walmart store in Monticello.
