A Livingston Manor man has been sentenced to prison for a violent domestic assault that left his partner with a fractured eye socket.
Clarence Hinkley, 42, was sentenced to two to four years in state prison on January 8, 2026, after being convicted of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, a class E felony. Sullivan County Supreme Court Justice Stephan Schick also ordered Hinkley to pay $350 in restitution for medical expenses and issued a 12-year stay-away order barring him from contacting the victim. Hinkley is a second felony offender.
The assault occurred on September 8, 2024, after a verbal argument in the Town of Bethel. Police say Hinkley pushed and pulled his partner before throwing her to the ground and kicking her in the face, causing a closed fracture to her right orbital bone. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident after responding to a 911 call.
During sentencing, the victim delivered a statement with the support of Crime Victim Specialist Coordinator Jade Corelli, praising her courage in participating in the prosecution. Assistant District Attorney Halley Hiatt handled the case.
District Attorney Brian P. Conaty said in a statement:
“Domestic violence is a serious crime that often occurs behind closed doors, but its impact is profound and lasting. Clarence Hinkley’s actions were cowardly. I commend the victim who actually displayed real strength, courage and bravery in coming forward. I also applaud the efforts of our Crime Victim Specialist Coordinator for ensuring the female victim meaningfully participated in this prosecution and was fully-supported throughout. This conviction and sentence reflect this office’s commitment to hold offenders accountable and protect victims and their families.”
The district attorney’s office urges victims of domestic violence to seek help. Those in danger can contact local law enforcement or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or www.thehotline.org.
