LIBERTY, N.Y. — Sullivan County will hold a job fair Tuesday, Sept. 1, for employees of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center who will be displaced by the facility’s coming closure.
Sullivan County and the New York State Department of Health announced last Wednesday that the facility will close due to the county’s financial and administrative challenges.
The county’s Center for Workforce Development is organizing the job fair at the request of the Sullivan County Legislature and County Manager Joshua Potosek, in partnership with local employers.
“Care Center staff are working tirelessly to find new homes for residents under their care, and we want to be sure to find new employment opportunities for them when their jobs are complete,” Potosek said.
The Care Center currently has 93 long-term residents and 86 employees with a capacity of 146 beds.
Eight employers have signed up to participate: Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing, the ARC of Greater Hudson Valley, The Center for Discovery, New Hope Community, Roscoe Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Valley View Center, A&T Healthcare and Always Compassionate Health.
The job fair is open only to Care Center employees and is not open to the general public.
Community Resources Commissioner Laura Quigley, who oversees the Center for Workforce Development, said the county is encouraging all 86 County employees at the Care Center to participate.
“The County and these employers want to give our dedicated staff every chance to continue working, living and raising a family locally, and we’ll be encouraging all 86 County employees at the Care Center to talk to us on Tuesday,” Quigley said.
The Center for Workforce Development is also available to help employees with their resumes in advance of the job fair.
