HIGHLAND, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced that all recreational access roads within the Hickok Brook Multiple Use Area in the Town of Highland, Sullivan County, are temporarily closed as work continues on the Gordon Dam repair project.
Earlier this year, the DEC closed Gordon Pond and the surrounding campsites to allow for necessary safety repairs to the dam. The agency said the access roads will remain closed throughout the duration of the construction project to protect public safety.
The construction area is marked with DEC signage. While motorized access is restricted, non-motorized access is still permitted outside the designated construction zone. Visitors may use the parking area on Barker Road.
The DEC recommends several nearby alternatives for outdoor recreation during the closure, including the Mongaup Valley Wildlife Management Area, Huckleberry Ridge State Forest, Neversink River Unique Area, and Wolf Brook Multiple Use Area.
The agency said it will announce the reopening of Gordon Pond and the access roads once construction is complete.
