Summer Tick Safety Tips from the New York State Department of Health

Posted on July 2, 2024July 3, 2024 by Patricio Robayo

It’s tick season and tick safety is important as ever.

About 50,000 cases of tick-borne illnesses are reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention every year.

Lyme, the most prevalent tick-borne disease in the US, is potentially debilitating and can be difficult to diagnose.

In 2023, the CDC reported that a different tick borne illness —Babesiosis, which can present asymptomatically or with flu-like symptoms— has been on the rise in the Northeast and Midwest over the last few years.

Reporter Marin Scotten spoke to Melissa Prusinski from the New York State Department of Health about what to keep in mind as you head outdoors this summer.
