The Ulster County Board of Elections is reminding voters that the deadline to change party enrollment is Saturday, February 14, 2026, and is warning that a scheduled New York State Department of Motor Vehicles system outage could affect online submissions.
The Board of Elections will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on February 14 to accept enrollment change requests in person. The Ulster County Board of Elections is located at 79 Hurley Avenue, Suite 112, Kingston, NY 12401.
The deadline is receipt-based, meaning the Board of Elections must receive a voter’s request by the close of business on February 14 for it to be processed.
Voters planning to change their enrollment online should be aware that the DMV has scheduled system maintenance beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026. The DMV’s online portal will be unavailable from that time through the close of the February 14 deadline.
Election officials say voters who wish to use the DMV’s online system are strongly encouraged to submit their request before 2:00 p.m. on February 13.
After that time, voters may still change their enrollment by using the New York State Online Voter Registration (OVR) system, or by submitting their enrollment change in person at the Ulster County Board of Elections during business hours on February 14.
Officials say “the safest way to ensure a change of enrollment is received on time is to appear in person at the Board of Elections before 5:00 p.m. on February 14, 2026.”
