KINGSTON, N.Y. — The Ulster County Pool in New Paltz will reopen for the 2026 season on June 20, county officials announced.
The pool, located at 241 Libertyville Road, will remain open through Sept. 7.
For the second consecutive year, Ulster County seniors and families who receive Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be eligible for free pool access. Applicants seeking a free season pass must present a Medicaid or SNAP benefit card and photo identification verifying Ulster County residency. Passes will be available beginning opening day.
County Executive Jen Metzger said the pool provides an affordable recreational option for residents and noted that free swim lessons will be available to season pass holders this summer.
“We’re thrilled to welcome residents back on June 20 to the Ulster County pool, one of the safest and most affordable swimming opportunities available to all of the County’s residents, and we’re now offering free swim lessons to season pass holders,” Metzger said. “I hope everyone takes advantage of the opportunity to cool off and enjoy time with friends and neighbors this season.”
The New Paltz Pool Complex is scheduled to undergo major improvements after the season ends. Planned upgrades include a renovated bathhouse, new zero-entry pool ramps, a large splash pad, and improvements to the filtration and gutter systems.
The project is being funded through a $3.92 million NY SWIMS grant secured by Ulster County.
Free swim lessons for season pass holders will be offered July 13 through Aug. 7, Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Each class will last 30 minutes.
Online registration for lessons opens June 20 and closes June 27. Class options will be available through the registration form posted on the county website on opening day. Enrollment is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ulster County is also seeking applicants for a limited number of lifeguard positions for the 2026 season.
Additional information about pool hours, admission, swim lessons, lifeguard hiring and eligibility for free access is available through the county’s Department of Public Works.
