Warming Stations Open Tonight

The National Weather Service says a very cold and blustery Arctic air mass will push into the area Thursday and Friday, likely bringing the coldest temperatures and wind chills of the season. Sullivan County’s warming shelters will be open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. the nights of January 27, 28, 29, and 30, and possibly thereafter, if the official forecast shows overnight temperatures at or below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

Locations are:

Liberty United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street

Liberty Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello

 

Here’s the current forecast:

  • Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.
  • Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -1. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 21 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -8. Northwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
  • Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 12. Northwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 1.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 17.
  • Saturday NightPartly cloudy, with a low around 2.
