Wayne County seniors eligible for farmers market vouchers; applications open
HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) — Income-eligible older adults in Wayne County can apply for vouchers to buy fresh, locally grown produce through the Pennsylvania Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
The Wayne County Area Agency on Aging said it will distribute the vouchers by mail this year. The program provides five $5 vouchers — totaling $25 — to each eligible participant once during the program year.
Vouchers can be used at approved farmers markets and farm stands across Pennsylvania from June 1 through Nov. 30, 2026, for fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables and herbs.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 60 years old by Dec. 31, 2026, reside in Wayne County and meet income limits: $29,526 or less for a single-person household and $40,034 or less for a two-person household.
The program is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging. It is designed to support older adults’ nutrition while boosting sales for local farmers.
Residents can locate participating markets using the PA FMNP farmers market locator app, available in the Apple and Google Play stores, or by visiting PAFMNP.org.
To request an application, call the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging at 570-253-4262 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Completed applications must be mailed to the agency’s office at 323 Tenth St., Honesdale, PA 18431.
Vouchers will be issued to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Distribution is expected to continue through Sept. 30, 2026, or until funds are exhausted.
