TOWN OF ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 74-year-old woman and her dog died in a house fire Sunday night in the Town of Rochester, according to New York State Police.
Troopers from the State Police Ellenville barracks responded at about 9:13 p.m. July 12 to a report of a structure fire at a single-family home on Baker Road.
The Accord Fire Department was first to arrive at the scene. Firefighters were told that the home’s occupant, identified as Joanne Carelli, 74, of Ellenville, and her dog were still inside the residence.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, Carelli and her dog were found inside the home. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit conducted a preliminary examination of the fire. Investigators said there is no evidence of criminal activity at this time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
